Conference on Frontiers in Sustainable Development Studies Successfully Held

On November 2-3, the Conference on Frontiers in Sustainable Development Studies, jointly initiated by the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics, Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), and School of Economics at Xiamen University, was held in the Economics Building of Xiamen University. The conference was funded by the key project “Relative poverty: Measurement, monitoring and policy implications in China” of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.



Development is meaningful only when it is inclusive and sustainable.” Focusing on frontier research results on sustainable development, this conference consisted of four keynote speeches, seven invited lectures and eight parallel sessions. During the conference, nearly 60 participants from home and abroad gathered together to exchange their ideas about development, and about effective approaches to promote China’s sustainable development and resolve the imbalance and insufficiency in development. Keynote speakers and honorable guests included Prof. Scott Rozelle from Stanford University, Prof. Paul Glewwe from the University of Minnesota, Prof. Peter Lanjouw from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Prof. Shaohua Chen from Xiamen University, and several distinguished experts from the World Bank including Dr. Michael Lokshin, Dr. Dandan Chen and Dr. Sailesh Tiwari.
