Xiamen University, founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-known Chinese expatriate, is located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in Southeast China. The remarkable Chinese economist Professor Wang Yanan, a former Xiamen University President and the Chinese translator of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital entrenched the School of Economics at Xiamen University as one of the top programs in China. In 2005, to further develop and promote modern economics, Xiamen University established a research-oriented and internationalized institute – the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE). The main missions of WISE and the School of Economics are high-quality graduate training, frontier research, and intensive international academic exchange and cooperation. Having successfully recruited about 36 faculty members from abroad in the past few years, WISE and the School of Economics still have several faculty positions available in all areas of economics, finance and statistics at all ranks. Junior candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. degree by August 2014 and have evidence of promising research ability. Senior candidates must have a Ph.D. degree and a demonstrably strong research record. Competitive salary, research grant and housing subsidy are provided, with a regular teaching load of three courses per year. Additional graduate course(s) may be arranged with commensurate pay. All faculty members, regardless of their citizenship, enjoy a housing subsidy for the first six years. Detailed information is available at the web site http://www.wise.xmu.edu.cn/english. We will interview selected candidates in Philadelphia, PA during the 2014 ASSA meeting.
